Steak, part I
My mom and aunt were in Boston this weekend, as part of what has become for them a December tradition. Tonight we went to a steak house called Abe & Louie's. I had the most expensive steak I've ever had the privilege of consuming. Coincidentally, it was also the tastiest. The texture, the flavor, the moisture...the closest to perfection I've yet experienced. You will probably interpret this as a joke, but I am completely serious: to further drive the point home, as I took my first bite I literally heard opera music in my head. I've been on a Brahms kick lately, so not surprisingly the music was his. Specifically, where the soprano soloist comes in at about 35-40 seconds into the fifth movement of his German requiem (Ihr habt nun Traurigkeit), as shown below. An angelic voice accompanied an angelic steak (click to see video):

i'm wondering if you will be presenting a three part series on steak concurrent to your promised series of three on capitalism.
also, i wonder if steak or capitalism is more important to you. or maybe they're tied.
also, i wonder if you'll be in minnesota on thursday. if you are going to be, please call me for details on a social occasion scheduled for that evening.
The series on capitalism requires more thought than grad. school applications allow me the time for at this point. That is a problem you undoubtedly understand right now....
Capitalism outranks steak merely because steak is a subset of capitalism.
Unfortunately I will not be in MN on Thurs. Is this the fabled Christmas party?
You did a part 1 of one topic and then a part 1 of another before moving onto part 2 of the first, which has severely confused me. I'm overjoyed by your good steak. I smell of charcoal since I'm cooking some burgers while I drink beer. I love the Navy.
Renee does the same thing my dad does and doesn't capitalize letters in typing. This is a minor pet-peeve (sp?) of mine. Maybe I should blog on it.
Jordan, after all of these years you finally got a good steak! Your patience has paid off. This for the man who at no matter what the restaurant, and no matter the quality of the steaks of your companions, has always managed to get the grisseliest (sp?) hockey puck available. May I suggest never eating a steak again so will never find yourself dissapointed again.
Also, I enjoy the multiple part 1 posts. It is much more colorful than 3 parts back to back. It also allows more time to digest the content of earlier topics before revisiting them.
Eat well,
Chad
Was "digest" a pun in light of Jordan's post?
Chris,
Your mom is a pun.
Chad,
Yeah, I figured that spacing out my capitalism posts would be better for everyone. Maybe a few people will read them if they aren't actually back to back. As far as the steak is concerned...you're absolutely right. It has been a long journey. And as you have independently verified, all those bad steaks I had really were bad! It wasn't just me being picky.
I hope you are eating well too. Rebel against the food time-outs.
I like this very much, your taste is impeccable as usual.
